How many times have you been told to protect your skin from pollution? The notion has been gaining traction. I honestly did not need another excuse to cram more products onto my overfilled shelf so I’ve tried to ignore it. But I’ve found that with increasing pollution levels, it’s hard to deny the effect it has, not only on the environment but directly on our skin.
Protecting skin against wrinkles has been the focus of anti-aging skincare forever, but in today’s society, age is not the only culprit. Environmental factors affect every aspect of our lives including premature aging. You can thank this for your fine lines, dark spots and dehydrated skin well before we start the aging process. It’s accelerated by extrinsic factors such as pollution, sun and cigarette smoke. Nothing to fear, but something to be aware of.
There are 3 things to love about Elizabeth Arden’s serum and it’s in their title –PREVAGE® City Smart + DNA Enzyme Complex + Anti-Pollution + Antioxidants Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Hydrating Shield. Packaged in a prefigurative suit-of-armor silver, the skincare range really lives up to its promise of preventing, strengthening and protecting skin from pollution.
This allusive shield is what drew me to this in the first place; I’ve been looking for something every day instead of sunscreen on my sensitive skin. I found protected me from the sun (using mineral based micronized Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide protecting from UVA and UVB rays). The serum also helps strengthen and protect skin against pollution. There is a lot to say on that, especially if you live in the city.
You could move to the country to protect yourself and prevent this kind of aging, but thankfully there are products like these on the market.
The story has come from recent studies suggesting that external environmental factors facilitate aging at an increasing rate. Air pollution comes in many forms including VOCs (think car exhausts, smog), nitrogen oxide gas (from burning fuel) and cigarette smoke. These particles are so small they make their way into our bodies everywhere, through our pores and the air we breathe.
Overexposure and leaving your skin unprotected can seriously damage your skin (not to mention wreaking havoc on our respiratory system). According to the website here, Arden has created a defender against this as they claim is:
“potent, first-of-its-kind patent-pending Anti-Pollution Complex comprised of an exclusive antioxidant blend of Idebenone, the world’s single most powerful antioxidant, Green Tea, Thiotaine, Ferulic Acid and L-Carnosine, to neutralise free radical damage caused by pollution and UV exposure, including both oxygen-based and nitrogen-based free radicals.”
Part of prevention, I am sorry I must mention that staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water, washing your face at least once a day will also help. Generally keeping healthy with regular exercising and eating well – all sounds like we have heard it before – but it really will help the aims to boost antioxidants and protect skin from the inside.
Elizabeth Arden has created a DNA enzyme complex that helps reduce skins exposure to pollution and other nasties in the air that cause free-radical damage. Whilst protecting again this it boosts skins natural repair process and who does not want that – this helps skin at any age.
PREVAGE® City Smart products are probably worth a try but are not great on the budget. I did like this one as a skin defender and used it all up. After moisturizing, it gives a perfect finish, feels light on the skin and even a little glowy.
It’s hard when exposed to so many skincare products, but in fear of using too many, it’s worth it. How can I ignore an anti-aging product that protects skin from pollution and the sun?
There are not too many beautifully luxurious skincare products that are dermatologically tested. Elizabeth Arden sure knows how to protect and perfect skin.
